The293celllinewasestablishedfromembryonicandtumOrigenickidneycellsofahumanfetus.Thiscelllineexpressesvitronectinreceptorscomposedoftheintegrinbeta-1subunitaswellasthevitronectinreceptoralpha-vsubunitandcouldbeusefulfortestingefficacyofvirucide.Thiscelllinealsomakesanexcellenttransfectionhost.The293celllineisahypotriploidhumancelllinethatexhibitsepithelialmorphology.Themodalchromosomenumberof64occursnearlyin30%ofcells.293cellscontainAdenovirus5DNAontheleftendsequenceoftheviralgenome.Allother293typesofcelllinesarederivativesofthisparentcellline.Allofthedaughtercellsexhibitsimilarcharacteristics.The293celllinewasderivedfromcancerousfetalkidneytissueandisareliablehostfortransfectionstudiescarriedoutforcancerresearch.AltogenBiosystemsprovidestransfectionkitswithlowcytotoxicityforthe293cellline.
