ARPE-19CellLine:
Studiesoftheretinalpigmentepithelium(RPE)haveproventobeapromisingapproachinfindingnoveltherapeuticsforAMD(age-relatedmaculardegeneration),theprimarycauseofblindnessglobally.HardlyaccessIBLeinvivo,retinalpigmentepitheliumisacelllayerthatsustainsretinalcellsintheeye.RPEislocatedatthebackoftheeye,anditsdeteriorationcouldleadtolossofvision.TheARPE-19celllinewasestablishedusingeyetissueofa19-year-oldmalepatient.Thesediploidcellsexhibitepithelialcellmorphologyandmorphologicalpolarizationincertainconditions.ARPE-19cellsareessentialinscientificresearchbyprovidingtheroleofatransfectionhostinpreclinicalstudiesofcancerslikeretinoblastomaandchoroidalmelanoma.ItcouldbebeneficialincellandmolecularBIOLOGyresearchduetotheexpressionofRPE-specificMarkers(RPE-65andCRALBP)antigens.
