Myocytesarelongtubularcellsthatarisefrommyoblastsandmakeupmusclefibersinhumanbeings.SubcloningisthetargetedtransferofaspecificDNAsequencefromtheparentvectortothetargetone.TheC2C12mousemyoblastcelllineisamuscletissuecelllinethatwasderivedfromasubcloneofamouse(Musmusculus)cellline.C2C12isamuscletissuecellline,whichexhibitsmyoblastmorphology.Thiscelllineactsasagoodtransfectionmodel,butcanrapidlydifferentiateintocontractilemyotubes,producingmuscle-specificproteins.C2C12hasbeentestednegativeformousepox(ectromeliavirus).ThesecellscouldbeusedforbiomedicalresearchandcellBIOLOGy,especiallyofmammalianmyoblastcells.Owingtoitsabilityforrapiddifferentiationthatcanbeeasilymodulatedbytreatmentwithproteins,theC2C12celllinehasproventobeareliabletransfectionhostforthestudyofmusclecells.AltogenBiosystemsprovidespre-optimizedlipid-basedtransfectionreagentkits,whichhavedemonstratedhightransfectionefficiencyverifiedbyqRT-PCR,fortheC2C12mousemyoblastcellline.
